Ductile cast iron,also known as "Nodular Graphite Cast iron" has the following excellent properties: High strength and toughness compara-ble to steel,to withstand high pressure. High ductility to withstand impact. Good corrssion resistance similar to grey cast iron. High flexibility for deflection. Easy machinability. These superior characterritics of ductile cast iron are mainly due to its microstruc-ture,which has a spheroidal shape of graphite in the metal matrix.
